YOU TURNED THE FLOWERS INTO SHIT
When you first catch that glimmer of romantic love, the shadow of a broken heart is already threatening on the horizon. Ditzy’s debut collection presents us this reminder that these disturbing feelings are universal, inevitable even.
The show opened up with a man acting out an alcoholics anonymous meeting while taking swigs of booze from a bottle. The pressure of embodying beauty, of having fur for skin, of being reduced to a fragile flower, will, in time, lead only to decay. The garments, studded with gemstones, speak to this inevitability, the weight of pressure crystallized in their very fabric.
The collection explores the ruinous force of men, whose hands destroy with casual ease. The man performing his toxic masculinity throughout the show is oblivious to the notion of his own annihilation in the face of love. He only knows the comfort of the pedestal, the self-satisfaction of being admired, never imagining his descent into obscurity. The flowers on the runway are scorched, there remains a beauty that is difficult to deny.
Ditzy doesn’t just speak of innocence, it strips it bare, leaving us exposed to the knowledge that feelings, whether beauty, love, or heartbreak, are fleeting, fragile things. The designer calls us to remain open, but warns us: let no feeling disturb us again.
